Ilya Konovalov

Ilya Konovalov Valeryevich (Russian Илья Валерьевич Коновалов, English transcription Ilya Konovalov, . Born March 4, 1971) is a Russian hammer thrower.

The six-time Russian champion ( 1995, 1999, 2002-2005 ) took between 1995 and 2005 participated in six World Athletics Championships and always reached while the final round. His best result he scored at the World Athletics Championships in 2001 in Edmonton. There, he won with a width of 80.27 m the bronze medal behind Szymon Ziółkowski ( 83.38 m) and Koji Murofushi ( 82.92 m).

In addition, Konovalov took part in three Olympic Games: Atlanta 1996, he finished sixth and fifth place in Sydney in 2000. In Athens in 2004, he failed, however, in the qualification.

Ilya Konovalov is 1,92 m tall and 106 kg in weight. In February 2007, he has been banned from athletics IAAF, for breach of the doping regulations for two years, because in one of his doping samples, the substance acetazolamide had been found.
