Ilyushin Il-14

The Ilyushin Il -14 (Russian Ильюшин Ил -14, NATO reporting name: Crate ) is a Soviet short - and medium-haul airliner. She was the improved successor of the Il -12 from the 1950s.

History

The aircraft was designed to replace the Ilyushin Il -12, the successor model of the Li -2, which was manufactured in the Soviet Union under license Douglas DC-3. The first flight took place on 13 July 1950. The Il -14 is a twin-engine, low-wing, designed as a propeller plane. The aircraft is used for both civilian and military purposes - used - as a cargo airplane. The majority of the machines produced in 1122 was produced until 1958 in the Soviet Union by Ilyushin. 80 machines were manufactured in the GDR by VEB Flugzeugwerke Dresden as Il -14P and in Czechoslovakia (as Avia 14). Later, the Avia 32 ( from the Il- 14M ), the Avia -14 -32A with structurally reinforced hull and higher takeoff weight and the Avia was developed 14 Salon with a pressurized cabin. From 1958 to 1962 about 200 Avia 14 were produced.

Construction

The Il -14 but has an appearance which is very similar to its predecessor Il -12 is a completely new design. The circular fuselage and the landing gear or have been completely taken over by the Il -12. The wings are designed as tapered wing with high aerodynamic stretching with straight wing tips. The flaps at the trailing edge are gap flaps. The rudder has a square shape with an early tail edge and a relatively small dorsal fin.

It is powered Il -14 by two 14 -cylinder radial engines of the type Shvetsov ASch - 82T and AW -50 - four-blade propellers with a 3.80 m diameter. The motors as well as the propeller, the front and tail is provided with de-icing.

Dissemination

The plane was in almost all CMEA countries in use. In addition to the Eastern European in Cuba and Vietnam, as well as in Afghanistan, Chad, Iraq, North Korea, the People's Republic of China and South Yemen. The Il -14 was also used as VIP aircraft for Egypt's President Gamal Abdel Nasser, India's Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Yugoslavia's President Tito and the Shah of Persia.
