Imagine: john lennon ( Music from the Motion Picture ) is the title of a soundtrack album, a documentary about John Lennon, the two unreleased recordings so far includes.

Genesis

On October 25, 1988, the documentary about John Lennon had imagine with the name: john lennon in Canon Cinema in London with presence of Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and Cynthia Lennon premiere. The director of the 100 - minute film was Andrew Solt, who also wrote the screenplay with Sam Egan. For over 200 hours of footage Andrew Solt could put together this career cross- documentary about John Lennon. Audio commentary by John Lennon, mostly from interviews, inferior to the film.

The album includes photographs of John Lennon with the Beatles and as a solo artist. ( The first album the aufführte both Beatles and solo material was The Best of George Harrison from 1976. ) For the first time the song Real Love, recorded in June 1980, published here with acoustic guitar accompaniment by John Lennon, as a demo version. Further publications in 1998 on the John Lennon Anthology box set and 1995 as a revised version of the Beatles. In Imagine ( Rehearsal) is a short allusive studio version. In A Day in the Life of applause at the beginning of the song was weggemischt; this version has been used since 1993 for the CD version of the album The Beatles/1967-1970.

Publication

In the U.S., the album peaked at number 31; UK number 64 in the charts; in Germany, the album could not place.

The first released in CD format in October 1988, first time at a John Lennon publication simultaneously with the vinyl (double) album. The CD release from 1988 has not yet been newly remastered.

The film was released in September 1989 on VHS video cassette. A re- release on DVD was made in November 2005 with an additional DVD containing bonus material.

Single release

In Europe, no single from the album was disengaged. In the United States in October 1988, the single Jealous Guy / Give Peace a Chance appeared which came in at number 80 on the charts.
