IMAM

The company industry Meccaniche SpA Aeronautiche Meridionali (about: "Southern aircraft and processing GmbH" ) is an Italian aircraft manufacturer based in Naples.

Originally, the company was part of Officine Ferroviarie Meridionali ( Approximately: "Southern Railway works" ), which started in 1923 to manufacture aircraft. From 1925 aircraft from Fokker were built under license, such as the IMAM Ro.1. Also aircraft were manufactured for Fiat. The abbreviation Ro before the number means Romeo. This symbol was used by all types produced since 1925.

1934 took over the company founded specifically for this purpose Società Anonima Industrial Aeronautiche Romeo (about: " Romeo aviation industry GmbH" ) part of the now insolvent railway supplier and it immediately became the construction of their own designs. 1936 took over the Breda Romeo works and eventually formed the Società Anonima Industrial Meccaniche e Aeronautiche Meridionali

The planes were not particularly successful. Only the reconnaissance aircraft and the IMAM IMAM Ro.37 Ro.43 were produced in significant numbers. After the Second World War, the company was renamed in 1950 as Aerfer.
