Imamzadeh

Imamzade (Persian امامزاده, IPA: ɛmɑmzɑdɛ ) is the Persian word for " descendant of an Imam " by which the descendants of the Twelve Imams of Shiites are meant. This includes both children and children's children and their descendants. Sometimes female offspring will be honored as Imamzade.

Building

The term also the shrine or mausoleum is called, in which such descendant of an Imam is buried. Many such building complexes located in Iran, in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their architecture and interiors are decorated very expensive usually. There are mostly Shiite centers and pilgrimage sites for Ziyarat ( visiting ) for the regional population. Even the Imam Khomeini Mausoleum in Tehran, since he was a Sayyid, be characterized as Imamzade. ( Awqaf Sazman -e) The Office of pious foundations amounted in 1973 the number of Imamzades in Persia in 1059.

Allama Majlisi, one of the most famous Shiite scholars from the time of the Safavids encouraged the faithful to visit these tombs and buildings. He notes in his pilgrim's Gift Guide for the pilgrims ( Tuhfatul - Za'er ), among other things, that they would receive the blessing of visiting the tombs.
