Iman (model)
Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid ( born July 25, 1955 in Mogadishu, Somalia), more commonly known only by their first name Iman, is a Somali model and actress.
Life
As the daughter of the Somali ambassador to Saudi Arabia Iman Abdulmajid was born in 1955 in Mogadishu, Somalia. She has two brothers and two sisters. She grew up in five languages and studied after they had graduated from high school in Egypt, Political Science at the University of Nairobi. There she was discovered on the campus of the renowned photographer Peter Beard.
Her first work as a model in 1976 for the American edition of Vogue magazine. She was immediately very successful and worked for many fashion designers, including Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. During her 14 years working as a model, she also worked with the famous photographer Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Annie Leibovitz.
As an actress Iman in Miami Vice, Out of Africa, Dangerous Triangle, Heart of Darkness, LA Story, The Human Factor, No Way Out was seen. In the sixth Star Trek film The Undiscovered Country, she played Martia, an alien shape -shifter, on the frozen asteroid Rura Penthe penal. She also starred in the music video Remember the Time by Michael Jackson with Eddie Murphy and Magic Johnson.
Since 1994, Iman has its own line of cosmetics that is tailored mainly to non-white women ( " women of color ").
