Region

Imanan is a rural municipality in the Department of Filingue in Niger.

Geography

Imanan lies in the Sahel at Dallol Bosso. The neighboring municipalities are Filingue in the north, Kourfeye Centre in the east and Tondikandia in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 32 administrative villages and 28 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Bonkoukou.

History

Imanan was settled in the early 19th century by several Tuareg groups. Around 1870, defeated ruler Imanans Bakkim the Zarma of Dosso. After his death in 1888 his son Anar was given dominion, this was followed in 1890 by Efilla. The latter had to defend themselves against attacks from karma and Filingue to fight back. 1896 Mazou became his successor. Mazou revealed in 1901 the French and fled to Nigeria.

The rural community Imanan went out in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Imanan / Bonkoukou.

Population

At the 2001 census Imanan had 29 286 inhabitants. For the year 2010 38.759 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is situated on the southern edge of a zone is operated in the Agropastoralismus. By Imanan the National Road 25, which connects the town with the neighboring city of Filingue and the Nigerien capital Niamey runs.
