Imerius of Immertal

Himerius (c. 570 in Damphreux, Canton of Jura, Switzerland; † around 620 in Saint- Imier, Canton Bern, Switzerland ) was a hermit and is a saint.

Himerius came from a noble family. Historically occupied a stay in the city of Lausanne, on a pilgrimage to Palestine, as well as his life as a hermit in the valley of the Suze at Saint- Imier to 610 According to one legend Himerius has received a gift in the country Schüsstal by the Lausanne Bishop Marius († 594 ). This fact, however, remains questionable because of his resume.

At his grave in the 9th century a chapel was built. In the 12th century Monastery was founded. From the holy Himerius the name of the municipality of Saint -Imier is derived.

His feast day is November 13.
