The story Immenreuths goes back to the year 1195. In this historically important year, the former monastery was Weißenohe (as Imurut ) by Pope Celestine III. mentioned. The convenient location Immenreuths ( on the trade route to Eger in today's Czech Republic), the population grew increasingly. Underwent significant development, the small village in 1878, when the railway line Nuremberg - Cheb was opened. Thus, the area also resurrected the interest in larger companies, which led to a rapid growth in both the population and the economy. Glass, ceramics and building materials were the first goods that went by rail from Immenreuth from all over the world. Immenreuth fortunately remained of the two world wars largely spared, which helped that refugees from eastern areas and due to its proximity to the Soviet occupation zone, also in Leipzig and Dresden were able to settle down and were included.

Development of the municipal area

In 1945 or 1946, until then independent municipality Punreuth was incorporated into the municipality of Maple Mountain. This came on 1 January 1978 to Immenreuth. The same day, parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Lenau were incorporated.

On 1 September 2008 the two undeveloped unincorporated areas Ahornberger Forestry and Flötz were integrated into the community Immenreuth.

On 12 February 2009, the council decided in a vote, which was accompanied by a large media interest, against a county change from the Upper Palatinate district Tirschenreuth in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth, although the place by paying according to calculations by Mayor Merkl each year nearly 120,000 euros less county levy would have. On 7 June 2009 a referendum on the county change took place. It voted a clear majority of 71 % of voters to remain in Tirschenreuth.
