Immermann-Preis

The Immermann Prize of the city of Dusseldorf was a literary prize, awarded 1936-1967 by the City of Dusseldorf. It was named after the playwright, short story writer and poet Carl Leberecht Immermann.

History

Between 1936 and 1943 (?) Of Immermann Prize of Nazi cultural policy makers was awarded to ideologically compliant authors. After 1945, they tried to put a different emphasis, by the 150th anniversary of the outlawed during the period of National Socialism important Düsseldorf author Heinrich Heine one (13 December 1947) as a day of re-establishment of the price selected. To commit oneself directly to Heine and to award the prize in his name, apparently dare you not yet - the literary scholar Bernd Kortländer writes about this in his essay Arno Schmidt and the Düsseldorf Immermann Prize: "the old Nazi Price was revived, instead of departure there was continuity ". From the documents in the archives of the city shows that in 1947, " who lives in Haan in Dusseldorf writer Emil Barth was first asked by the jury to apply, and then received the prize " but not the more important from today's perspective, Arno Schmidt, who also is had applied for the award.

The Immermann Prize was awarded to 1967. He was replaced by the newly established Heinrich Heine Prize 1972.

In addition to the literary prize, there have been other art prices of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital, about the Cornelius - Price ( painting and sculpture ) and the Robert Schumann Prize ( for classical music). In addition to the main prizes prizes (scholarships ) are awarded to non-established artists.
