Immortal Souls

Immortal Souls is a melodic death metal band from Finland. Musical characteristics are the corresponding the style fast, melodic guitars and the typical Death Metal " growling ".

Band History

The band was founded in late 1991. After several changes of the band members found themselves A. Särkioja, E. Särkioja, Pete Loisa and Jupe Hakola, who then took up the demo tape Immortal Souls in January 1995, which is still a death metal movement with deep vocals had. In November 1996, the demo Reflections of Doom, which is slower but more aggressive than the first was followed.

In 1998, the band went back into the studio to record songs for Divine Wintertime. These were then published together with the EP Through the Woods, Towards the Dawn of the Finnish band " Mordecai " as a split CD. The songs of the Divine Wintertime were much more melodic and faster than their predecessors, so that the band could be counted from that date to Melodic Death Metal.

After a major break in 2000 they released the EP The Cleansing, which in turn slowly, but very melodic, was still. The following year, the first album was published under the name Under The Northern Sky, with which the band finally found her style, which she called " Melodic Metal Winter ". 2003, the second album Ice Upon The Night was released, which has stylistic resemblance to its predecessor, but has clearly stronger influences from the blues.

Finally, in 2005 the compilation Once Upon A Time In The North was released, which contains in addition to the no longer available Under The Northern Sky and the EPs The Cleansing and Divine Wintertime as well as three songs from Reflections of Doom and one of Immortal Souls. In May 2007, the band announced that they are changed from the label Fear Dark to Dark Balance. There appeared the album Winter calibration in June 2007.

Together with Deuteronomy in 2008 was followed by a headlining tour of Central Europe. Since then, Aki Särkioja is only singer, bass plays a session musician. In June 2010, the band announced to have started with the recording of the new album. The name and date of publication of this fifth album has not yet been announced.

Style

Immortal Souls usually play fast, technical, melodic death metal by Scandinavian school. The lead guitar is both in solos and partially in the accompaniment of singing and riffs in a virtuoso and fast playing techniques. Riffs, melodies and melodic licks and stick to classical harmony. The drumming is characterized by double bass and blast beats. The vocals are guttural and atonal at medium pitch.

The lyrics of Immortal Souls treat experiences and motives of the Christian faith, the imagery is based on the Nordic wintry nature.
