Immunes

Immune (Latin, plural of immunis " of ( public ) services exempt " ) were in the Roman Legion privileged soldiers who were exempt from normal duties ( munera ) and had specific tasks. They were located hierarchically under the principales, but on the simple legionnaire, but received only the easy pay. The rank is about one today corporal.

The list is not exhaustive. The essential characteristic of the group of immune was the liberation of security services and heavy tasks that had to fulfill ( gregalis / miles gregarius ) of the common soldier. The immune had, in contrast to the optiones principales or no supervisory function.
