Imre Hódos

Imre Hódos ( born January 10, 1928 in Hajdúnánás, † April 24, 1989 in Debrecen) was a Hungarian wrestler and Olympic champion in 1952 in Helsinki.

Career

Imre Hódos grew up in Debrecen and began in 1946 with " Debreceni Vasutas Sports Club" ( DVSC ) with the rings. In 1953 he moved to the big-club " Vörös Lobogo " Budapest, where he remained until his retirement in late 1962. Imre wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style, was born in the Hungarian national team in 1950 and was trained there by the Hungarian national team coaches Lajos Keresztes and Mihaly Matura excellent.

In 1951 he occupied at the World Festival of Youth in Berlin (East) behind the Soviet top wrestler Artem Terjan the 2nd place and first made ​​aware of this at the international wrestling mat.

At the Olympic Games in Helsinki, he played his first international bantamweight championship, winning with four wins the gold medal, although he again defeated by Artem Terjan on points. Also at the World Championships in 1953 in Naples, he defeated his nemesis Artem Terjan and was behind the vice world champion.

At the World Championship 1955 in Karlsruhe, he could not participate due to injury. But he was at the Olympic Games in Melbourne it again. There, he scored four victories. In his fifth fight he was defeated by Soviet athletes Konstantin Wyrupajew narrowly on points and had to settle for 4th place.

In the 1958 World Cup at home in Budapest Imre had pronounced unlucky when he was injured in his second fight against Soviet athlete Oleg Karavayev and had to retire. 1960 Imre took part in Rome for the third time in the Olympic Games. The now 32 - year-old athlete won there but only a fight and came so only on the 11th Place.

1962 ended Imre Hódos his wrestler career and worked after many years as a trainer in " MAV " Debrecen.
