Imrich Bugár

Imrich Bugár, Hungarian Imre Bugár, ( born April 14, 1955 in Dunajská Streda, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak discus thrower ( Hungarian nationality ), who now lives in Prague.

At the European Championships in 1978, he won the bronze medal with 64.66 meters behind Wolfgang Schmidt from the GDR and the Finn Markku Tuokko. 1980 Bugár won at the Olympic Games in Moscow with 66.38 m silver behind the surprise winner Viktor Raschtschupkin ( 66.64 m) from the Soviet Union and before the Cuban Luis Delis ( 66.32 m).

The European Championships in 1982 brought Bugár then the first major title. He won with 66.64 meters and had over a meter ahead of second-placed Igor Duginjez from the Soviet Union. At the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki Bugár won gold with 67.72 meters in front of delis with 67,36 m and the second representative of Czechoslovakia Gejza Valent.

On May 25, 1985 Bugár succeeded the longest throw of his career when he threw the discus 71.26 m wide in San Jose, California. In the World Cup 1987 in Rome, he was seventh and at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul twelfth. At the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo and in Stuttgart in 1993, he retired as of the qualification as at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Imrich Bugár is 1,96 m tall and weighed about 120 kg competition times.
