In My Lifetime, Vol 1 is the second studio album by American rapper Jay -Z. It was released on his record label Roc -a- Fella Records on November 4, 1997. Critics recorded the album mixed. The album is mostly mainstream -oriented than its predecessor. The album debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 album charts and was awarded by the RIAA platinum in the United States during the year.

Musical style and content

Worked on the album and rapte Jay -Z with various artists and producers in the hip hop scene like Fox Brown, Babyface, Blackstreet, Teddy Riley, Too $ hort, Lil 'Kim and Puff Daddy. The producers DJ Premier and Ski who already worked on Jay -Z 's debut album Reasonable Doubt, produced numerous new beats, which should make the songs radio USEFULLY for mainstream audiences. Puff Daddy gave the album the ultimate touch for Jay -Z breakthrough in the U.S., he produced almost all the songs and the album and posted it then at Bad Boy Records. The contents of the album refers to life in the ghetto and in the urban scene of New York City, also located on this album many personal songs on which he usually simply called by the pseudonym " Jiggy ", which for some time Jay -Z stage name was.
