The Time of the Butterflies (In the Time of the Butterflies ) is an American- Mexican television film about the Mirabal sisters from the year 2001. Directed by Mariano Barroso, the screenplay by David Klass and Judy Klass based on a novel by Julia Alvarez.

Action

The action takes place in the time of Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo. Minerva Mirabal and her sisters join the resistance movement against Trujillo. Minerva follows this her first love, the revolutionary Lio. The group describes itself as butterflies.

The sisters visit in November 1960 their arrested husbands. They are kidnapped, beaten and killed after visiting the prison.

Reviews

The lexicon of international film wrote that the film was "a film adaptation of a bestseller of the 1990s " that " the true story pointedly emotional" and constitutes "here on the main person " focus. He was a " solid ( TV ) convincingly played by conventional staging patterns ".

Awards

Salma Hayek and the film as Best TV Movie won the ALMA Award in 2002; Marc Anthony was nominated for the same price. Salma Hayek was nominated for the 2002 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award.

Background

The film was shot in Mexico City, Morelos and Veracruz.
