The song was first published by the inclusion of Frank Sinatra 1955 popular, as the title song of his album In the Wee Small Hours ( which was included in the " Grammy Hall Of Fame " 1984).

As early as 1955 an instrumental version of JJ Johnson & Kai Winding was recorded, in the following year of Hazel Scott. Singers like Morgana King, June Christy and Ella Fitzgerald who covered the song as well as The Hi- Lo's.
