Indalo

The Indalo is a Neolithic or Stone Age copper figure, which was discovered as a cave painting in the cave " Los Letreros " in Vélez- Blanco in the Spanish province of Almería for the first time. The figure depicts a man holding a rainbow interpreted as a bow in his hands.

The name comes from an Andalusian Indalo rain god. The mutated to Indalozeichen rock image is interpreted as a protection against evil spirits and is still popular as a talisman.

The Indalo is in the province of Almería, particularly in Mojácar, with lime painted on the walls of houses to protect against storms and other hazards. During the last years he has become a symbol of the whole province. He is a certification mark of tourism, the economy and the form of life of the people of Almería.

In the movie Conan the Barbarian ( which was partially filmed in Almería), in the scene where the Shamans seek, Conan revive, painted the face of the title character with symbols. One of those symbols is the Indalo.
