The Inde is a 54.1 km long, orographic left tributary of the Rur. Administratively belongs to the Inde water Eifel-Rur.

Course

It arises from the confluence of several small streams in a source area of 3.5 km ² on the corridor Perschei approximately 3 km southeast of Raeren in eastern Belgium, crosses the border into Germany and North Rhine -Westphalia at the landmark 904, forms the border with Belgium over a length of 1.6 km, flows through the district of Aachen Kornelimünster, through the western city of Stolberg ( Rhineland) and continue through Eschweiler- Aue, Eschweiler, Weisweiler and indene, and finally in Kirchberg, southwest of Julich in the Rur to lead. History

New river bed

Since 1996 was started as part of the rehabilitation of former coal mining area indene thus to create a new bed for the Inde between the towns Lamersdorf and Kirchberg. Origin of the name

Water mill dating from the 1st century Christ

At an oxbow lake of the Inde in the district of Düren in 2009, archaeologists discovered the remains of an approximately 2000 year old water mill, which is the oldest discovered structure of its kind north of the Alps.
