Independence County, Arkansas
The Independence County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Batesville. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in the central northeastern Arkansas and has an area of 1,998 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
2000 2010
The Independence County was formed on October 20, 1820 from parts of Arkansas County and Lawrence County. The name goes back to the Declaration of Independence.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Independence County 36 647 people in 14,431 households. The population density was 18.5 inhabitants per square kilometer.
