Independent School League (Boston Area)

The Independent School League ( ISL), founded in 1948 is appointed by sixteen located in New England private schools, which are sporty and as a school in the competition. The ISL is the oldest sport association of private schools in the United States.

History

Founding members of the original private league called School League were the Belmont Hill, Brooks School, Buckingham Browne & Nichols ( BB & N), The Governor's Academy, Milton Academy, Noble and Greenough School, St. Mark's School and the Thayer Academy. Similar to the Ivy League began informally with the host of American football. In 1948 the formal establishment was tightened.

1968 was added at the Middlesex School. 1972 replaced the Groton School, the Tabor Academy. 1972 came the Rivers School and the Saint Sebastian 's School added as more private schools from the area around Boston. Was established in 1974, the Roxbury Latin School. The League was called in the same year ' Independent School League '.

Mid-1970s, joined the St. Paul 's School in Concord, New Hampshire and the Lawrence Academy in Groton, including the St. George 's School in Newport on.

These schools in New England are sometimes collectively referred to as Saint Grottlesex. They are among the most traditional as most expensive boarding schools and elite private schools in the United States.
