Index Medicus

The Index Medicus was an American Fachbibliografie who cataloged medical articles and books.

It was founded in 1878 by the military physician John Shaw Billings. In the decades after the Second World War, it was the most important source of information for medical researchers. It was published by the United States National Library of Medicine. A single vintage consisted of many large volumes. In December 2004, the printed edition of the Index Medicus has been set.

The successor to the Index Medicus is the electronic database MEDLINE, for which there are various online accounts. PubMed is a search engine that searches among others in the MEDLINE database.
