Indian gauge

The Indian broad gauge, sometimes called colonial track where trains is a track gauge of 1676 mm ( 5 ½ feet).

Dissemination

Widespread it is in the territory of the former British India, Sri Lanka, Argentina and Chile. Also in Canada and the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as Louisiana and Texas there was such routes. While in North America, the Indian broad gauge was already in the 1870s and 1880s, replaced by the standard gauge, the network in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka continues to grow further as, alongside Umspurungen old meter gauge lines, especially in India, numerous new lines to be built.

The last rail line this track in Canada, the Carillon and Grenville Railway, was about 1912 decommissioned. 1972, a network of high-speed trains was opened in this gauge in San Francisco and the Bay Area Rapid Transit.
