Indianapolis Capitals

The Indianapolis Capitals were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League in Indianapolis, Indiana. The venue of the capital was the Pepsi Coliseum.

History

The Indianapolis Capitals were established in 1939 as a franchise of the American Hockey League and were a farm team of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Already in its third season in the AHL reached the final of Indianapolis to the Calder Cup, where it almost 3-2 victory prevailed against the Hershey Bears. A year later the team moved again in the finals, but failed this time to the Buffalo Bisons with a sweep in the best- of-five series. Over the next six seasons, the Capitals did not reach either the playoffs or eliminated already out in the first round, before the Cleveland Barons beat in the 1949/50 season 4-0. After Indianapolis ever had again missed the playoffs in the next two years and was already eliminated in the first round, the franchise in 1952 after thirteen years dissolved in the AHL.
