International Hockey League (1984-1987)

The Indianapolis Checkers were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Indianapolis, Indiana. The venue for the Checkers was the Pepsi Coliseum.

History

The Indianapolis Checkers were founded in 1979 as a franchise of the Central Hockey League, the championship they won in 1982 and 1983 respectively. The Checkers filled the gap that had caused the dissolution of the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association in 1978 in the city. After the dissolution of the CHL following the 1983/84 season, the Indianapolis Checkers changed in the International Hockey League, in which they participated for three years and were eliminated respectively in the first playoff round, before the franchise in 1987 to Denver, Colorado, resettled was where it subsequently participated under the name Colorado Rangers on game operation of the IHL.
