The Indianapolis Colts are a team of the National Football League ( NFL) and play there in the American Football Conference (AFC) in the Southern Division. They went from the 1953 Dallas Texans forth. From 1953 to 1984, the Colts played in Baltimore as Baltimore Colts. After these were for the first time in 1969 at the Super Bowl and lost to the New York Jets with 7:16, they succeeded in the first Super Bowl win in 1971 with 16:13 against the Dallas Cowboys

History

The Colts were founded in 1953 in Baltimore. In 1984, she was brought by owner Bob Irsay in a cloak-and -dagger operation to Indianapolis. Even though many years have passed in which Baltimore a new team got ( Ravens ), which also won the Super Bowl and Bob Irsays son Jim is now owner, one has in Baltimore not forgotten to this day what happened back then, and in every game Baltimore beats the Colts still receive the contempt of Ravens fans.

After the unsuccessful 1997 season, Bill Polian was hired as President and CEO. He had already made a name for himself as general manager of the Buffalo Bills, ( who were under his supervision for four consecutive years in the Super Bowl ) and the Carolina Panthers as the best new Team ( " expansion" ) built in the history of the NFL. Two years later, the Colts from 3-13 in the preseason to 13-3 ( wins / losses ) could improve. So they set an NFL record for the largest improvement of a team in one season, measured by the number of wins on. To Polians significant achievements include the obligation of a number of important ungedrafteter players.

Jim Mora, who coached the team from Indianapolis since 1998, was replaced in 2002 by Tony Dungy. With him as the head coach of the Super Bowl the Colts won in 2007 by a 29:17 win over the Chicago Bears.

Successor of Dungy, who ended his coaching career after the play-offs in 2009, Jim Caldwell was. On 17 December 2009, the Colts outbid under his direction their own achieved in the previous week new NFL record when they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars with 35:31. This was the 23rd consecutive victory in a game of regular season, the old record held by the AFC rival New England Patriots with 21 wins in a row. At the end of the season the team from Indianapolis but the New Orleans Saints defeated in Super Bowl XLIV.
