Indie role-playing game
The term free role-playing game, as the more general " free play ", used in two senses. Firstly, it can refer to the degree of regulation of an RPG, on the other, whose license status.
Usually free role-playing games
A role-playing game, which does completely or largely without rules is called a free role playing game. Most popular pen -and- paper role-playing games use detailed and more or less complex sets of rules, called role-playing game systems. In it the player characters, enemies, etc. values are assigned and decided the outcome of battles and other actions by these values and usually die rolls. The trailer free role playing games see through these systems, however, often the true sense of the role play, accepting and displaying a role, pushed into the background. Therefore, it focuses the free RPG on the interaction of the individual figures, conflicts are resolved narrative and the game leader acts only as the main narrator, not as a control arm. The term " narrative role-playing " is therefore often used synonymously, but includes rules less explicitly. Examples are the regular poor U.S. narrative RPG Sorcerer and the cube -free system Daidalos German by Jochen oath.
Role playing under free licenses
As a free role playing game role playing games also are referred to, which are not under an end user license agreement. The exact categorization is controversial, as there are a variety of different licenses that correspond more or less to the concept of free licensing. Most viewed as crucial that the rule book is available for free, but the term can also be used, based closely on the concept of free software. Sometimes freelancer for the game is possible. Partial rules of publishers are free to move in, but there are also a variety of individuals freely developed role-plays and an organized over the Internet Free RPG movement, which has some influence on the role of game theory. Examples are standing under the Creative Commons license universal system Demiurgon that released under the GPL A cube system and the commercial end- SciFi game Degenesis whose rules are freely available on the internet.
