Indische Buurt

The Indian Buurt ( Indian Quarter ) is a neighborhood in the borough of Amsterdam Oost ( North Holland province ) and had 10,250 inhabitants in 2009 in the Indian Buurt Oost

History

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Indian Buurt was created as a working-class neighborhood for port workers and belongs to the district Oost. It is a multicultural neighborhood with about 67% of foreign citizens from about 150 different nationalities.

The area is divided into West Indian site name and site name Oost Indian. After the eastern harbor area was moved to the west of the city in the 1960s, was no future for the port workers and more from the original working-class neighborhood was a residential area. In the 1970s, older houses were demolished and there emerged new apartments among other things in the style of the Amsterdam School.

On the eastern side of the district is 1928 scale Flevopark. This is on the northern side, the bridge connects the district with Schellingwouderbrug Amsterdam Noord. On 2 September 2007, the court Timorplein was officially opened with a cinema, a theater and a convention and conference center.

Transport links

The Amsterdam trams (Tram ) No. 3, 7 and 14 pass through the Indian site name. Nos. 7 and 14 have stops at Flevopark. The trains ( Trein ) towards Central Station Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Almere and Amersfoort stop at the Muiderpoortstation.
