Indium is a chemical compound of indium and arsenic. It is a semiconductor, and one of the III-V semiconductors.
Production and representation
Indium is formed at high temperatures of the elements:
Properties
Indium arsenide crystallizes in the sphalerite structure: arsenide forms a cubic close packing and indium occupied half of the tetrahedral holes. The band gap of the semiconductor is 0.35 eV.
Use
Such as other III -V semiconductor is indium application in the semiconductor industry. It is used for photodiodes in detectors for infrared radiation. Another field of application are laser diodes.
Safety
Indium is toxic and carcinogenic due to the presence of arsenic.
