4 - (indol -3 -yl ) butyric acid (IBA ) is a naturally occurring plant hormone in plants from the group of auxins. It is a light yellow solid with the chemical formula C12H13NO2. It was isolated from corn and pastures.

Production and representation

4 - (indol -3-yl ) butyric acid, by heating of indole, γ -butyrolactone, and sodium hydroxide, followed by neutralization of the intermediate product are obtained.

Use

4 - (indol -3-yl ) butyric acid is used as a rooting hormone, and a growth regulator for plants. It is approved in the U.S. since the 1960s.

With effect from 1 June 2011, the European Commission allowed the application of indolyl - butyric acid as a growth regulator in ornamentals. Pesticide products containing this active ingredient are registered in Austria, made ​​in Germany and Switzerland, no approvals.
