Indonesia Museum

Indonesia Museum is a museum in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, the anthropology and ethnology of Indonesia is dedicated to.

Concept

The museum was an integral part of the entire Taman Mini Indonesia Indah - designed complex. It was designed as a learning center of Indonesian culture and should be one of many stations to learn about Indonesia. The construction and inauguration were under the patronage of Mrs. Tien Suharto, wife of Suharto.

Building

The museum was opened in 1975. The museum building itself is based in the architecture, building materials and the sculptural features and the colors on the traditional Balinese architecture. In the park surrounding the museum, 26 so-called " pavilions " are built. Each of these pavilions, which consists usually of three buildings typical for a region corresponding to one of the 26 regions that make up the Republic of Indonesia. With the exception of a house from Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, has been mined there and built in Jakarta again, all the houses are replicas, but where möglist the original sizes, roof and resistant forms, arrangement of rooms, stairs and ornaments have been considered.

Exhibitions

Thematic focus of the museum are art and culture of the various ethnic groups of the Indonesian archipelago, which are now among the members of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to traditional craftsmanship, image carvings, textiles, musical instruments and the like also Contemporary Art Indonesia is issued.
