Indriði G. Þorsteinsson

Indriði Guðmundur Þorsteinsson ( born April 18, 1926 in Gilhagi, Skagafjordur; † 3 September 2000 in Hveragerði ) was an Icelandic writer and journalist.

Life

Indriðis parents were the workers Þorsteinn Magnússon and his wife Anna Jósepsdóttir. After attending school in Laugarvatn he worked as a salesman, truck and taxi drivers. Beginning of the 1950s, he became a journalist in Reykjavík. In 1951 he began to publish literary texts.

His first novel, Sjötíu above Niu af stöðinni, appeared in 1955. He is regarded as a classic of the Icelandic post-war literature. The book was also international attention. 1962, was made ​​into a film by the Danish director Erik Balling with Gunnar Eyjólfsson and Kristbjörg Kjeld in the lead roles. The film was very successful, but applies because of their freedom of movement as a scandalous film. The novel was also translated into Hungarian and 2011 under the title of Taxi from station 79 into German. German critics expressed predominantly very positive. Thus, the novel in the Frankfurter Rundschau, was honored as " Icelandic literature in the best ironically leadership ". He was with Þórunn Ó. Friðriksdóttir married and had four sons, including Arnaldur, which is also a well-known writer.
