Indus Waters Treaty

The Indus Waters Treaty is a 1960 completed a brokered by the World Bank agreement between India and Pakistan, which regulates the use of water of the Indus and its tributaries. In this case, Pakistan received the ( almost) sole right to use the three Western and particularly water-rich rivers Indus, Jhelum and Chenab awarded, while India had the right to use the three eastern rivers Ravi, Beas and Satluj. Since the intensive use of water in India meant that the lying on Pakistani territory lower courses of the eastern rivers were dry, Pakistan also received financial support awarded to feed through diversions and channels these lower reaches of water from other sources.
