Industry Classification Benchmark

The Industry Classification Benchmark ( ICB) grouped publicly traded companies according to their primary sales in industries. There are 10 so-called industries, 19 super sectors, 41 sectors and 114 subsectors. The super sectors are derived from the former Stoxx sectors from during the 41 sectors of the FTSE - sectorization are borrowed.

This classification was introduced on 20 September 2004 by Dow Jones STOXX and FTSE and is in competition with GICS, which is used by Standard & Poor's and MSCI Barra. ICB is a four-level structure. Each of the super-sectors is expected as the index, so you can compare the performance of individual sectors.
