Infernal columns

Hell columns (French Colonnes infernales ) denotes the troops of General Louis Marie Turreau who implemented the measures ordered by the national convention for the suppression of the revolt in the Vendée in the period from January to May 1794. These included indiscriminate killings of civilians and the destruction of infrastructure ( burning of villages, destruction of the harvest).

The number of victims can not be accurately determined today, but it must be substantial, and go into the tens of thousands, so that the actions of Turreaus twelve columns are now considered as genocide.
