Information Centre for Foreign Language Research

The Information Centre for Foreign Language Studies ( IFS) is a department- free central facility of the Philipps- University Marburg since 1969. It specializes in the detection and description of literature and research activities in the field of foreign language research and didactics and is content with this orientation unique in the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 1998, it is headed by Frank G. King.

Tasks

The central task of the IFS is the documentation of publications on foreign language research, particularly on the methodology and didactics of modern foreign language teaching in a literature database with about 67,000 entries. Documented all major German and a variety of international journals and monographs, anthologies, e-journals, teaching materials, educational software and gray materials from the areas mentioned above.

Publications

Since 1970, the IFS is the annotated, quarterly bibliography Modern foreign language teaching out appear in the respective contributions of the IFS database with keywords and are generally described with short presentations. The IFS leads database-supported research registry Language Teaching Research and Language Teaching for the German-speaking area, which is always published in Issue 1 of a vintage Bibliography of Modern Foreign Language Teaching and on the Institute website. Interested parties can record your own projects in the field of foreign language research in the research registry.

As a cooperation partner, the IFS provides data on foreign language teaching publications to the Information System Education ( FIS formation). FIS Education is a composite of about 30 documentation centers with different orientations content from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The online searchable FIS Education Index, which was eingegeliedert in the Education Portal is the " centerpiece " of the laminate. With approximately 560,000 bibliographic references to all educational and education-related topics, this is the most comprehensive information service to education-related literature in the German-speaking countries.

Furthermore, the IFS has a reference collection of journals, monographs and textbook collections.

Location

The information center for foreign language research is located in the multi-purpose building at the Philipps University of Marburg on the Lahn hills in the Hans -Meerwein -Straße.
