Inga Gentzel

Inga Kristina Gentzel ( born April 24, 1908 in Stockholm, † January 1, 1991 in Nyköping) was a Swedish middle distance runner and Olympic gold medalist.

1926 started Gentzel at the Women's World Games in Gothenburg. In the 1000 -meter run after she finished 3:09,4 minutes into second place behind the British Edith Trickey.

On 16 June 1928 she presented in Stockholm in 2:20,4 minutes a new world record in the 800 -meter run on. Before the Summer Olympic Games in 1928, the German Lina Radke improved the world record to 2:20,0 minutes. In Amsterdam for the first time in athletics competitions at the Olympic Games for women were held. In the Olympic final in Amsterdam three runners remained below the world record of Radke. Lina Radke won gold in 2:16,8 minutes before the Japanese Kinue Hitomi, Gentzel won bronze and improved the Swedish record 2:18,8 minutes. The set up by her record lasted until 1943, when Anna Larsson corrected him in Gothenburg.

Gentzel won from 1928 to 1931 four Swedish league title in the 800 meters, 1929, she also won the 200 -meter run. After her athletic career, she married and became under the name Inga Dahlgren singer. Together with Ulla Castegren and Anna -Lisa Cronström they formed the Trio Rita, their records were played in the entertainment program of the Swedish radio.
