Ingavi Province

Ingavi is one of twenty provinces of the Bolivian department of La Paz and is located in the western part of the department. The province takes its present name after the place Ingavi (also: Ingavi ) at the 1841 Battle of Ingavi took place, with the independence of Bolivia from Peru has been saved.

Location

The province is located in the central part of the Bolivian Altiplano at Río Desaguadero and is bordered to the north by Lake Titicaca, on the west by the Republic of Peru, to the southwest by the province of José Manuel Pando, in the south of the province Pacajes, in the southeast of the province aroma, to the east by the province of Murillo, and in the north- east by the province of Los Andes.

The literacy rate in the province is 85.7 percent, and 88.1 percent, although in men and 69.1 percent for women.

The infant mortality rate has declined from 7.7 percent (1992 ) to 5.7 percent ( 2001).

77.8 percent of the population speak Spanish, 82.8 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.8 percent. (2001)

59.7 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 54.6 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

70.0 percent of households have a radio, 24.7 percent have a television, 41.4 percent a bicycle, a motorcycle 0.8 percent, 3.5 percent, a car, a refrigerator 3.4 percent, and 4.9 percent a telephone. (2001)

74.1 percent of the population are Catholics, 20.0 percent are Protestant (1992).
