Inge Helten

Inge Helten ( born December 31, 1950 in Westum, today Sinzig, Rhineland -Palatinate ) is a former German athlete who had belonged to the world's best 100-meter runners in the 1970 and 1976 world record run. At Olympic Games, she won two medals for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Successes in detail

  • European Athletics Championships 1971: Fourth place in the 100 - meter dash ( 11.6 sec); Square one with the 4 x 100 - meter relay ( 43.3 s, together with Elfgard Schittenhelm, Annegret Irrgang ( judge) and Ingrid Mickler -Becker).
  • European Athletics Championships 1974: Second place with the 4 x 100 - meter relay ( 42.75 s, together with Elfgard Schittenhelm, Annegret Richter Annegret and Kroniger ).
  • Summer Olympic Games 1976: Third place in the 100 - meter dash ( 11.17 s ), fifth in the 200 - meter dash ( 22.68 s ); Second place with the 4 x 100 - meter relay ( 42.59 s, together with Elvira Possekel, Annegret Richter Annegret and Kroniger ).

Inge Helten launched until 1971 for the DJK Andernach, then for the OSC Dortmund. She stood in the shadow of the more successful Annegret Richter, who they defeated in important races. In 1976, she set a world record over 100 meters with 11.04 s. In the same year she ended her sports career. In her playing days, she was 1.71 m tall and weighed 58 kg.
