Ingham County, Michigan

Ingham County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mason.

Geography

The County is centered in the southern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1453 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Shiawassee County, Livingston County, Jackson County, Eaton County and Clinton County.

History

Ingham County was formed in 1838 from parts of Shiawassee County, Washtenaw County and free territory. It was named for Samuel D. Ingham, a U.S. Treasury. The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the cabinet of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
