Ingo Preminger

Ingo Preminger ( born February 25, 1911 in Chernivtsi, † June 7, 2006 in Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica ) was an Austrian-American literary agent and film producer.

Biography

A native of Bukovina Preminger was the younger brother of film director and producers Otto Preminger. Ingo Preminger grew up in Styria and Vienna, where he first studied law and worked as a lawyer before emigrated with his family after the Anschluss of Austria to the United States.

Finally, about his brother, he came to Hollywood, where he opened an artists' agency in 1948. His clients included the screenwriters Dalton Trumbo and Ring Lardner Jr., who received during the McCarthy era as two of the "Hollywood Ten " prohibition and imprisonment. As Preminger continued to hold to them and fed them with work, Ring Lardner Jr. confided to him in 1970 for his screenplay military satire MASH, an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Richard Hooker, as Executive Producer on. 1970 Robert Altman directed for Preminger's production company whose first production, M * A * S * H, which was awarded the Golden Globe and the Palme d'Or and Preminger also earned an Oscar nomination for best feature film.

Despite the great success Preminger produced only a few films, including the comedy The Last of the Cowboys with Henry Fonda and the thriller Top Secret with Barry Newman and Klaus Maria Brandauer.
