Ingrain wallpaper

Ingrain ( according to the old spelling woodchip ) is a form of wallpaper with an unevenly structured ( " rough " ) surface. It was invented in 1864 by pharmacist Hugo Erfurt ( 1834-1922 ). First, it served as a decoration paper for showcase and as base paper for print wallpaper. In the so-called Bauhaus era of the 1920s, people began to use them as wallpaper in the interior design.

Hugo Erfurt was a grandson of the paper maker Friedrich Erfurt, who had founded in 1827 the company Erfurt & Sohn in Wuppertal, which is now the world's largest producer of paintable wallpaper and still has its headquarters in Wuppertal.

The woodchip is measured in terms of numbers, the most common wall covering in Germany.

Properties

Ingrain today consists of three layers, are firmly incorporated into the structure-forming wood fibers. Depending on the degree of granulation occur as fine, medium and coarse structures. History

Previously walls painted with lime or distemper, which had to be washed off with each renovation. Processing
