Life

Bergman's mother, Friedel Adler Bergman German, died when Ingrid was three years old. The father, Justus Samuel Bergman was a photographer and promoted early Ingrid's acting talent. He died nine years after his wife, Ingrid Bergman and went to live with an uncle. She attended drama school of the Royal Dramatic Theatre and in 1935 her first speaking role in a Swedish film. 1937 Bergman married dentist Petter Lindström, in the following year their daughter Pia was born.

Due to the great success with the film Intermezzo ( 1936) Hollywood took notice of them. When she turned for a in Germany for the UFA film ( The four companions ) 1938, inter alia, at the instigation of David O. Selznick, went to the USA, Ingrid Bergman in Sweden was already a star. The young Swede was able to take the American audience with their "naturalness" with which they very much stood out by the American film stars for itself. Quite often it came in her film career to disputes with the producers or directors, as they play, for example, without make -up (which should support the naturalness ) wanted to take over or a different role in the film.

One of her most famous roles she played Ilsa Lund in 1942 on the side of Humphrey Bogart in the U.S. production of the Casablanca director Michael Curtiz. 1949 turned with Roberto Rossellini Bergman in Italy to film Stromboli. She fell in love with the director and consequently left her husband Petter Lindstrom, after she had become pregnant by Rossellini, which caused a scandal in America. Thus they lost the favor of the American public. In 1950, she married Rossellini. The two had three children together, son Roberto Ingmar (* 1950) and Isabella Fiorella Elettra Giovanna the twins and Isotta Ingrid Frieda Giuliana ( born June 18, 1952). Bergman and Rossellini turned a total of seven films together. In 1957, the marriage ended in divorce with Rossellini.

Just a year later married Bergman the Swedish producer Lars Schmidt. This marriage lasted until 1970.

With the movie Anastasia in 1956 she could win back the favor of the American public. In addition to numerous film roles ( for television ) Ingrid Bergman played in many European cities (London, Paris, and others), as well as, inter alia, also in New York at the theater. Throughout her career, Ingrid Bergman won an Academy Award three times and Others. It is thus by Katharine Hepburn and Meryl Streep together with the second most, the Oscar winning actress.

In 1974 she was diagnosed with breast cancer Ingrid Bergman, who was successfully treated initially. Beginning of the 1980s, this disease has been found again. In 1982, she turned - already seriously ill - her last film, A woman named Golda, in which they represented Golda Meir. She died at her 67th birthday in London.

Ingrid Bergman was symbolically on the Norra begravningsplatsen (Northern Cemetery ) in Solna, Stockholm County buried, as their ashes were scattered on June 5, 1983 in front of the place Fjällbacka on the Swedish west coast in the vicinity of their favorite island Dannholmen at sea. On the same day a bust of Ingrid Bergman (sculptor Gudmar Olofsson ) was established on the small town harbor. Her gaze is directed to the island Dannholmen and the bust is surrounded by a planting of roses, which got their name on that day.
