Ingrid Vang Nyman

Ingrid Vang Nyman ( born August 21, 1916 in Vejen, Jutland, † December 13, 1959 ) was a Swedish book illustrator, among other things, the 1945 published, Original Edition by Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking designed. She is known for her unconventional style that was ahead of its time.

Life and work

At nineteen Nyman began studying at the Art Academy in Copenhagen, which she, however, interrupted by a few years, to operate as a self-employed artist. In 1940 she married the artist and poet Arne Nyman, their son came in the same year to the world. The marriage ended in divorce after a few years and Nyman moved in 1943 with her son to Stockholm.

Now began her most prolific period to 1952, in which they also Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking, the collection of short stories August and other children and we children of Noisy Village illustrated. Nyman asked the illustrations for children from the same artistic quality as from those for adults. Due to psychological and health problems, she pulled back again and again for a long time to relatives in Denmark. Her condition worsened rapidly and so Nyman eventually committed suicide in 1959 at the Lucia celebration.
