The Ingula pumped storage plant (formerly called " Bramhoek ") is a property under construction hydroelectric power project of the South African power utility Eskom. It is located on a steep slope of the Drakensberg mountain range, which stretches along the border of the Free State and KwaZulu -Natal in South Africa, in the basin of the Tugela. The system is composed of an upper basin ( with the 48 m high Bedford Dam ( CFRD dam ) as a shut-off ) and a lower basin ( with the 37 m high Bramhoek Dam ( a RCC dam ) ) whose basin 22 per million cubic meters grasp. They are located 4.6 km apart and are connected with tunnels. In the underground power house four reversible pump generators, each with 333 MW capacity are ( together 1332 MW). The plant is expected to cost 27 billion edge and go in the year 2014. Both Absperrbauwerke were completed in 2011.

The pumped storage power plant is to be used to provide electrical energy during daylight hours with peak demand. On the night of excess energy is used from the grid, which is generated by conventional coal-fired and nuclear power plants to pump the water into the upper reservoir.
