The name Ingvar has its roots in the Nordic. The first component is derived from the Old Icelandic Ing word Yngvi, the name of a god. The second part of var ( Old High German: wara ) is synonymous with " protection" or " grace ". Consequently, Ingvar means " protected by Yngvi ". (see Freyr )
