Íñigo Melchor de Velasco, 7th Duke of Frías

Íñigo Melchor Fernández de Velasco, Marqués del Fresno, (* April 16, 1629 in Madrid, † September 29, 1696 ) was a Spanish military leader and statesman in the service of Charles II of Spain.

It was the first son of Isabel María de Guzmán and Bernardino Fernández de Velasco y Tovar, from which he inherited the title of Duke of Frias, Count of Haro, marquis de Berlanga and the command of the troops in Castile.

When Reapers 1640, he served as general on the side of Castile under the command of Juan José de Austria. At the Restoration war, which separated Portugal from the Spanish crown, he was commander of Galicia. From 1668 to 1669 he was governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Subsequent he was in the state and war council of Charles II of Spain.

In 1671 he became chairman of the Consejo de las Órdenes, an institution that administered the military orders Associations Order of Santiago, Order of Calatrava and Alcántaraorden. The religious area comprised two cities about 250 municipalities and 100 villages. On February 17, 1674 he signed the Treaty of Westminster.

In 1675 he was Consejo Supremo de Flandes. In 1676 he was Mayor Mayordomo (first Hofmeister) by Charles II of Spain.
