Initial Approach Fix

The Initial Approach Fix ( IAF) is a waypoint at which a standard approach procedures for IFR approaches begins. At this point, the pilot sets the landing (English approach) on an airfield and ends the phase of the Sink or travel flight.

At the Initial Approach Fix begins the initial approach.

This term, and thus the strict distinction of descent and landing approach is not common when flying under VFR conditions.

After subsequent to the Initial Approach Fix Intermediate (IF ) of the intermediate approach (Intermediate Approach), which is an extension of the final approach begins.
