Initiative for Catalonia Greens

Initiativa per Catalunya Verds ( ICV; German Initiative for Catalonia Greens) is a left -ecological ( eco-socialist ) party with a regional focus in the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia. It was formed from a merger of Iniciativa per Catalunya, the Catalan sister party, the Spanish Socialist Izquierda Unida was originally, and the Els Verds - Confederació Ecologista de Catalunya, an ecologically oriented party. Since 2007, ICV is a member of the European Green Party.

Since the Spanish general election in 2004 and the 2004 European elections to form a joint list with the Izquierda Unida, in the parliamentary elections in Catalonia since 2003 with the new Catalan sister party Izquierda Unida of which Esquerra Unida i Alternativa as ICV EUiA. This has the ICV 2009 since the Spanish general elections of 2011, two MPs in the Spanish Parliament and since the European elections in Spain in the European Parliament.

In the Catalan Parliament the list ICV EUiA reached in the legislative period 2006-2010 after the parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2006 9.7 percent and set twelve deputies. She was from 2003 to 2010 partner in the three-party coalition with the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya ( PSC ) and the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya ( ERC). Thus (since 2006 under President José Montilla ) supported the ICV the Catalan government. In the parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2010 this government coalition lost its majority. The ICV EUiA reached 7.4 percent and ten seats. In the early parliamentary election in Catalonia 2012, the ICV EUiA also gained. It reached 9.9 percent and 13 seats.
