Inmarsat C
Inmarsat C is a two-way packet data service, which is operated by the telecommunications company Inmarsat. The service is approved for use under the Global Maritime Distress Safety System ( GMDSS) and meets the requirements of the International Maritime Organization ( IMO ) for the Ship Security Alert System ( SSAS).
Inmarsat C is digital, offers the following communication options:
- Telex
- Fax
- Data transmission ( eg Internet)
Through the data transfer and the sending and receiving of SMS and e- mails is possible. Furthermore, the service provides remote monitoring, updates to charts, weather information, safety information ( MSI), Maritime Safety, GMDSS and SafetyNET and FleetNet services. Inmarsat C provides no telephony / voice transmission.
The service is operated by an Inmarsat -C transceiver or mini -C transceiver with lower power consumption. Both offer the same service.
Since Inmarsat C can be operated with a mini - transceiver in a relatively small space and is part of the GMDSS, the system is also great for the recreational marine environment.
The service is available for transport, maritime and aeronautical use.
